LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Hispanic Student Society has been a part of Texas Tech since 1964, and leaders of the organization are making sure newcomers get the most out of what it can offer.<\/p>\n
Sam Davila has spent her entire college career as a member of the Texas Tech Hispanic Student Society.<\/p>\n
She says the organization, which has roots dating back to 1964, has a lot to offer students.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do things in certain branches like our academic and mentorship branch,\u201d Davila said. \u201cWe do study nights that we get food for and things like that. We have a fundraising branch, so we\u2019ll do fundraisers on and off campus.\u201d<\/p>\n
But that\u2019s just scratching the surface. Davila now acts as the group\u2019s external vice president and says with so many branches and members, there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved. <\/p>\n
\u201cBeing able to build those connections, not only within our group but outside of our group, is very important,\u201d Davila said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I believe that we do such a good job of encapsulating something for everybody, because of the diversity within our organization.\u201d<\/p>\n
Davila jumped in headfirst when she joined the society her freshman year. She\u2019s been able to take part in fundraisers helping multiple organizations and has also taken on the role of recruiting students, in the hopes of letting them thrive here in Lubbock.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing able to have all those people, even if they\u2019re not from here, even if they don\u2019t look like us, just having a group of people that want to experience and emphasize the culture that we bring as individuals, is 100% important to have a hub for,\u201d Davila said.<\/p>\n
