{"id":452947,"date":"2026-10-01T07:21:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T07:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/452947\/"},"modified":"2026-10-01T07:21:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T07:21:10","slug":"lubbock-county-da-recuses-office-from-double-salary-probe-refers-case-to-midland-county-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/452947\/","title":{"rendered":"Lubbock County DA recuses office from \u2018double salary\u2019 probe, refers case to Midland County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; The investigation into the county\u2019s \u201cdouble salary\u201d payments has been handed over to outside prosecutors. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney Sunshine Stanek confirms with KCBD that she and the Lubbock DA\u2019s office has recused themselves from the ongoing investigation into county payroll disputes involving the Precinct 2 commissioner seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Stanek says the case is now being referred to the Midland County DA\u2019s office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The investigation focuses on how nearly $70,000 was paid to Mark Meurer over nine months despite not holding the Precinct 2 commissioner seat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">County Judge Curtis Parrish appointed Meurer to the Precinct 2 seat following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2025\/12\/09\/county-judge-parrish-removes-commissioner-corley-office-corley-says-move-corrupt-power-play-files-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2025\/12\/09\/county-judge-parrish-removes-commissioner-corley-office-corley-says-move-corrupt-power-play-files-lawsuit\/\">removal of Commissioner Jason Corley in December 2025<\/a>.
