Lamme Sr. founded the Texas candy shop in Austin, within walking distance of the Texas State Capitol. In the years that followed, Lamme created the company’s iconic heavy pecan pralines in 1895. The popular candy used pecans from trees along the Colorado River.

Years later, to clear up confusion about the store’s pronunciation, the company introduced the lamb logo. By 1956, the company opened the Airport Boulevard factory and installed its famed neon lamb sign and striped candy cane pole. Three generations of the family ran the business, helping the candy company become a Texas staple.

Less than a decade later, in 1965, the third generation, David Lamme Teich, retired from selling ice cream and shifted the store’s focus to confections and specialty chocolates. Lammes Candies began pursuing even more recipes, creating the famous Longhorn, which includes pecans and chewy caramel with fine chocolate. Ultimately, the brand created the Texas trio: the Longhorn, Choc’Adillos, and Cashew Critters.

The innovative candy recipes continued, expanding to over 1,000 confections, including taffies, brittle and divinity candies.

As the store continued for another two generations, it announced its closure due to “shifts in the marketplace and the long-term sustainability of its operations,” in April. Months later, Delightful Development Co. confirmed its return.

In the meantime, the store will be available only online. Preorders are open, and the candies can be delivered across the country beginning Nov. 1. The possibility of a brick-and-mortar return has not been announced, but the candies will be available to purchase in retail locations around Texas.

Read the original article on People

NEED TO KNOW Famed Texas candy shop, Lammes Candies, will return after announcing its closure in April New…

[6
54291,140627,140628,6572,106363,155713,27,29,28,14772
post-453041","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-texas","tag-candy-shop","tag-craig-cavileer","tag-delightful-development-co","tag-fort-worth-stockyards","tag-lammes-candies","tag-pecan-pralines","tag-texas","tag-texas-headlines","tag-texas-news","tag-texas-state-capitol
["GET
