Dallas-based Care.com just hired veteran chief product executive Sam Hall as its chief product and technology officer. He previously held product positions at Amazon, GrubHub and ClassPass.<\/p>\n
Hall \u201cis going to help us create deeper, more lasting value for our customers whether you\u2019re a family looking for care or a caregiver looking for work,\u201d Care.com CEO Brad Wilson said in a statement. \u201cHe\u2019s got real instincts for how marketplaces work and, just as important, Sam has deep experience operating at the intersection of product and engineering.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look forward to giving him the runway to rethink what Care.com can be, not just tighten what\u2019s already here,\u201d Wilson said.<\/p>\n
Digital product expertise<\/p>\n
At e-commerce giant Amazon, Hall and his team built the company\u2019s mobile platform, Care.com said.<\/p>\n
At GrubHub, Hall and his team merged separate tech environments into a single platform to accelerate restaurant onboarding and enhance driver retention, Care.com said. Earlier, Hall helped increase revenue at ClassPass and CLEAR.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs both a father and a son, I\u2019ve experienced caregiving from multiple sides \u2014 the sleepless nights, the tough decisions and the relief of finding the right support at the right moment,\u201d Hall said. \u201cThat personal connection to care is exactly why I\u2019m so excited to join Care.com.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hall\u2019s personal background helps drive his enthusiasm for the job and makes him a great fit for Care.com, Wilson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt Care.com, the mission is everything. It\u2019s what gets us out of bed every morning,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cSo what makes us most excited about Sam joining the team is his passion for that mission.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe recently moved back to the U.S. in part because of his own family\u2019s caregiving responsibilities, so he has real, personal experience with how hard it is to find care you can trust,\u201d Wilson said. \u201cThat\u2019s exactly who we want on this team.\u201d<\/p>\n
New look, new tech<\/p>\n
Hall joins Care.com a little over a year after it rolled out product improvements and a new brand identity. In a statement, the company said the initiative aimed to transform Care.com \u201cfrom a transactional platform to a more holistic guided platform.\u201d<\/p>\n
The tech upgrade included new AI-enhanced search tools.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is more than just a new look and feel \u2014 it\u2019s a renewed promise to our members,\u201d Wilson said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Acquisition of Care.com<\/p>\n
Care.com, founded in 2007, said it\u2019s one of the largest providers of online services for finding care jobs and family care, serving more than 45 million people. Care.com\u2019s reach extends to in-home and out-of-home care for children, aging loved ones and pets.<\/p>\n
In March, a fund affiliated with private equity firm Pacific Avenue Capital Partners acquired Care.com from media company IAC Inc. The portfolio of IAC, now known as People Inc., includes People, Better Homes & Gardens, Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure and Southern Living magazines.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Wilson said the acquisition represented a new chapter for Care.com.
