{"id":453775,"date":"2026-10-02T00:42:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T00:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/453775\/"},"modified":"2026-10-02T00:42:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T00:42:08","slug":"austin-airport-breaks-ground-on-temporary-concourse-m-central-austin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/453775\/","title":{"rendered":"Austin airport breaks ground on temporary Concourse M | Central Austin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Construction is underway on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyaustin.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Austin-Bergstrom International Airport<\/a>&#8216;s temporary midfield concourse, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyaustin.com\/concourse-m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Concourse M<\/a>, as part of the larger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyaustin.com\/journey-aus-austin-bergstrom-airport-expansion-development-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Journey with AUS<\/a> expansion project. <\/p>\n<p>Airport officials, city leaders and construction partners celebrated the concourse&#8217;s groundbreaking Sept. 29. <\/p>\n<p>How we got here  <\/p>\n<p>ABIA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flyaustin.com\/south-terminal-aus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">South Terminal<\/a> closed March 31 and was later demolished, as <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/central-austin\/transportation\/austin-to-shutter-south-terminal-as-airport-expansion-continues-future-concourse-m-designs-revealed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">previously reported<\/a> by Community Impact. Allegiant Air and Frontier Airlines, which operated out of the South Terminal, have since moved to the main Barbara Jordan Terminal. <\/p>\n<p>The demolition made way for the construction of Concourse M, a temporary six-gate facility that will help relieve passenger congestion during Barbara Jordan Terminal&#8217;s Concourse A remodeling and future 26-gate Concourse B and tunnel project. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1790901727_636_.jpeg\"   alt=\"Concourse M rendering\"\/>Concourse M will function as a temporary added terminal during the overall airport expansion. Today, we serve 22 million passengers,&#8221; ABIA CEO Ghizlane Badawi said. &#8220;The growth that&#8217;s arrived here, we&#8217;re feeling it today, and we&#8217;re doing everything we can to add infrastructure as quickly as we can.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The details <\/p>\n<p>Concourse M is slated to feature a variety of passenger amenities including a coffee market, grab-and-go concessions, retail options, restrooms, a pet relief room and shaded outdoor areas for travelers using walk-out gates. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1790901728_341_.jpeg\"   alt=\"Concourse M interior gates rendering\"\/>Concourse M will feature six gates and concessions. (Rendering courtesy Austin Aviation)Austin Aviation<\/p>\n<p>The concourse will also only be accessible through a shuttle bus which will leave from Gate 13 out of the Barbara Jordan Terminal. <\/p>\n<p>Passengers flying out of Concourse M will still park in the same ABIA lots or garages as if they were flying out of the Barbara Jordan Terminal, per airport officials. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1790901728_700_.jpeg\"   alt=\"Inside of Austin airport shuttle bus\"\/>Travelers flying out of Concourse M will be able to travel on a shuttle bus from the main terminal to the new concourse.
