{"id":453877,"date":"2026-10-02T02:52:07","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T02:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/453877\/"},"modified":"2026-10-02T02:52:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T02:52:07","slug":"humble-selects-margaret-jo-johnson-byron-as-parade-grand-marshal-lake-houston-humble-kingwood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/453877\/","title":{"rendered":"Humble selects Margaret Jo Johnson Byron as parade grand marshal | Lake Houston &#8211; Humble &#8211; Kingwood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofhumbletx.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Humble<\/a> city officials announced the appointment of longtime resident\u00a0Margaret\u00a0Jo Johnson Byron\u00a0to serve as grand marshal for the city\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofhumbletx.gov\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/2026-Annual-Christmas-Parade-of-Lights-Registration-and-Application-Packet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">35th\u00a0annual Christmas Parade of Lights<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The details<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Norman Funderburk announced the appointment at the city council\u2019s Sept. 24 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted someone special, someone \u2018old Humble\u2019 that you all knew,\u201d Funderburk said. \u201cYou\u2019re part of an esteemed group now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Byron said it was an honor to lead the parade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thank you all,\u201d Byron said. \u201cHumble is a special place for me. I grew up here. My mother was born here, and I can\u2019t tell you how much I hold it in my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some background\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Humble ISD officials named Byron a 2026 Distinguished Alumna, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.humblemuseum.org\/3196333_margaret-johnson-byron-recognized\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">May 30 news release<\/a>\u00a0from the Humble Museum.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Byron graduated from Humble High School in 1963 and has since participated in many town events and committees, per the release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition to participating in the Salt Grass Trail Ride for 50 years, Byron was instrumental in the restoration of the city\u2019s historic cemetery on South Houston Avenue, according to the release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Byron also played a role in the establishment of the Humble Museum, where she served as a board member for 10 years.
