Officials with Buchanan\u2019s Native Plants will celebrate the store’s 40th anniversary Oct. 3 at its annual Fall Fest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The family-friendly event is free and features a live band, food trucks, kids\u2019 crafts, drinks and local vendors.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Some background<\/p>\n
Buchanan\u2019s Native Plants opened in 1986 after owner Donna Buchanan researched perennial plants.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cShe started thinking, \u2018If I am searching for perennials and native plants, I\u2019ll bet there are others that want them, too,\u2019\u201d the website\u2019s history states.\u00a0 \u201cSo the idea for a nursery selling native plants was born.\u201d<\/p>\n
The plant shop first opened on Heights Boulevard and eventually moved to its current location at East 11th Street. It is now being run by Donna\u2019s son, Zach, and his wife, Heather.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The nursery is known for its Texas native plants and organic gardening. It also offers citrus fruits, berries and figs.
