{"id":454907,"date":"2026-10-03T03:30:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T03:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/454907\/"},"modified":"2026-10-03T03:30:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T03:30:10","slug":"texas-barber-found-128k-in-cash-on-top-of-bank-atm-returned-it-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/454907\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas barber found $128K in cash on top of bank ATM, returned it all"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A North Texas barber found a small fortune resting right on top of a bank ATM last month \u2014 and returned every single cent, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The good Samaritan, who did not identify himself to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/texas-man-finds-120000-dollars-bank-atm-returns-every-dollar-092926\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">CBS<\/a>, went to the bank machine with a 42-year-old woman when the pair spotted bags filled with $128,510 in cash and a smaller bag packed with 19 checks, police said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never had a case like this before, ever,\u201d Lewisville police detective Gina Miller told CBS.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.75195313;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"   data-modal-image=\"41116979\" width=\"444\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/us-currencies-bag-us-currencies-143521537.jpg\" alt=\"U.S. currency spilling from a cloth bag.\" class=\"wp-image-41116979\"\/>The bags were filled with $128,510 in cash and a smaller bag packed with 19 checks, police said. Lambert<\/p>\n<p>After contacting 911, the do-gooder \u2014 a 37-year-old from the mid-sized city in Denton County \u2014 noticed one of the bags bore a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/13\/business\/chick-fil-a-is-one-of-americas-toughest-franchises-to-get-and-the-startup-cost-may-surprise-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Chick-fil-A<\/a> label and tried to hand the money over to the fast-food restaurant, but the manager denied ownership.<\/p>\n<p>A responding officer counted the cash twice to confirm that every last bill was accounted for and the money was promptly stored away in a safe location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think to find that kind of money, or that amount of money, is certainly rare,\u201d Lewisville police chief Brook Rollins told CBS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s very unusual. And then to not find it connected to any criminal activity is certainly unusual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cops confirmed the cash belonged to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/08\/business\/bank-of-america-expanding-partnership-with-tunnels-to-towers-9-11-memorials-ahead-of-25th-anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bank of America<\/a> and was being processed by its cash management vendor, Brinks.<\/p>\n<p>A Brinks technician had serviced the ATM and was tasked with transporting the money, but accidentally left the bags sitting on top of the machine, according to police and CBS.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"   data-modal-image=\"41116973\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/postinhouse-nypostinhouse-bank-america-bank-99472808.jpg\" alt=\"Bank of America ATMs built into a wall beneath a large bank logo.\" class=\"wp-image-41116973\"\/>Cops confirmed the cash belonged to Bank of America and was being processed by its cash management vendor, Brinks. Christopher Sadowski<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bag was just sitting there,\u201d Miller said. \u201cThere was no indication of a crime occurring.
