Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was granted parole after serving seven years. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles cited a number of factors in granting her early release, including satisfactory institutional adjustment.<\/p>\n
Organizers at the vigil voiced frustration and disappointment over the parole decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver 6,000 people signed a petition in 2024 against getting Amber Guyger parole so we\u2019re here to support him and not just be frustrated and be mad but to give a light to his legacy,\u201d Davante Peters of Community Movement Builders said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we remember Botham Jean we gotta remember the injustice of his murder,\u201d John Fullinwider of Mothers Against Police Brutality said.<\/p>\n
