Emancipet<\/a>, a nonprofit that provides low-cost veterinary care, celebrated the opening of the Amy Mills Emancipet Clinic at Levander Loop with a ribbon cutting Sept. 29.<\/p>\n

The roughly 4,000-square-foot clinic began seeing patients in early August, an Emancipet staff member said.<\/p>\n

It sits in the space that housed Emancipet’s first brick-and-mortar clinic, CEO Cheryl Katon said at the event. The organization’s clinic page<\/a> calls it “the very first Emancipet clinic ever opened.”<\/p>\n

The clinic is named for Amy Mills, who led Emancipet as president and CEO for 17 years starting in 2006, according to a 2024 news release<\/a>. Katon succeeded Mills on Nov. 15, 2024, after serving as a vice president at Boston’s Fenway Health, according to Pearl Street Collective<\/a>, the firm that ran the search.<\/p>\n

The details<\/p>\n

The clinic offers spay and neuter surgeries, dental care, soft tissue surgeries, heartworm testing and treatment, vaccines, microchips and other preventive care, according to its website. Surgeries require appointments, while preventive and dental care are walk-in.<\/p>\n

Prices are the same for every client, with no income requirements, Katon said. Clients who can’t afford the services can get help paying, she said.<\/p>\n

Emancipet was founded in 1999 and sees more than 260,000 visits a year at clinics in Austin, Killeen, Houston and Philadelphia, according to the nonprofit.<\/p>\n

The nonprofit has raised about $5 million to launch three new mobile clinics over the next few years, including one in Austin, Katon said.
