Whitaker\/San Antonio Express-News<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Willis just barely missed a tackle, but he was still in the right spot to make a play.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Johnson linebacker chased after Brandeis quarterback Wynter Smith on a third-and-4, but was unable to hunt the dual-threat down. However, as another Johnson defender stripped the ball from Smith, Willis was in the perfect place to make the recovery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was right there to just get the ball, and that&#8217;s how it happened,\u201d Willis said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Willis\u2019 fumble recovery led to a score that capped off a pivotal third quarter for Johnson, as the No. 1 Jaguars subdued the Brandeis Broncos 38-25 at Comalander Stadium on Friday night to move to 4-0 on the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/sports\/high-school\/article\/high-school-football-scoreboard-week-6-san-antonio-22459094.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Week 6: San Antonio high school football final scores and stats<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super proud of our defense for being able to stop this team,\u201d Willis said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The Johnson linebacker added the defense zeroed in on Smith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to close him into the gaps, just make him have to try and run up the middle and stop him every single time,\u201d Willis said. \u201cI&#8217;m just super proud of our guys.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Johnson took an early lead on Brandeis in the first half, the Broncos had the momentum heading into the break. Brandeis defensive back and Texas A&amp;M commit Hakim Frampton intercepted Johnson quarterback Elvis Estrada with 11 seconds until halftime.\u00a0The following\u00a0Brandeis drive started on Johnson\u2019s 28-yard line, and the Broncos inched further into Jaguars territory, setting up a 38-yard kick by\u00a0Brandeis senior kicker Zach Cantu to tie the game at 17-17 to end the first half.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Johnson, which opened the second half on offense, turned to its ground game to retake control.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like we&#8217;re the best in the city, and I feel like other people think that, too,\u201d Jaguars junior running back Jeremiah Johnson said. &#8220;So, we had to come out very strongly and prove that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Johnson punched in a 4-yard rushing touchdown on the Jaguars\u2019 first drive of the third quarter.\u00a0 And after Willis\u2019 fumble recovery, senior running back Noah Cartwright found the end zone on a 6-yard rushing touchdown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The two running backs accounted for the bulk of the Jaguars\u2019 yardage, with Johnson rushing for 114 yards and two touchdowns and Cartwright running for 89 yards and one score.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Johnson senior Noah Cartwright (8) runs the ball during a game between Brandeis and Johnson high school football at Comalander Stadium on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, in San Antonio.\" loading=\"eager\"   style=\"aspect-ratio:3 \/ 2\" class=\"x100 y100 opc bgpc ofct bgsct block bg-black mnh0px fill\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Johnson senior Noah Cartwright (8) runs the ball during a game between Brandeis and Johnson high school football at Comalander Stadium on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, in San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew J. Whitaker\/San Antonio Express-News<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re able to just out-physical teams,\u201d Cartwright said of him and Johnson. \u201cThat\u2019s our main dominating point \u2014 physicality.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Estrada tossed two touchdowns, both to senior wide receiver Colin Cragun in the first half, including a 50-yarder.
