Lastra called Walker a “relentless reporter” and “gifted storyteller” who is willing to ask difficult questions while keeping the people affected by those stories at the center of his reporting.

Walker also announced his departure from WWL-TV in New Orleans on Friday, reflecting on a career decision that will bring him back to a city he once wasn’t sure he would leave.

Earlier this year, Walker said he began having “loose talks” about a possible return to KPRC. He described that 2023 move as a chance he had wanted years earlier, after growing up watching the station’s anchors and even building pretend TV news sets with LEGOs as a child.

But Houston had already become a major part of his career.

Walker first joined KPRC 2 in 2015 as a morning reporter and went on to hold several reporting and anchoring roles. He covered some of the biggest stories of his career in Houston before leaving the station in March 2023.

“I spent nearly a decade in the Bayou City, reporting some of the most challenging, yet important assignments of my career,” Walker wrote. “I even worked my way up to the anchor desk.”

Before KPRC, Walker worked in Connecticut and New York and spent time at CBS News.
