MORGANTOWN, W.Va.\u00a0\u2013 The West Virginia University volleyball team (9-4, 2-1 Big 12) plays host to Houston on Sunday, Oct. 4, at Hope Coliseum. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET.

\nThe Mountaineers are looking for their best four-match start to Big 12 play in program history following a reverse sweep against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, Friday night.

\nWVU dropped the opening two sets, 25-23 and 29-27, before responding with three consecutive set victories, 25-21, 25-11 and 15-10, to earn its second Big 12 win of the season.

\nHeading into the week, West Virginia ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 in total assists and No. 3 in team kills. Senior outside hitter Nina Horning<\/a> leads the Mountaineers with 195 kills. Senior setter Alexis Finnvold<\/a> leads the team with 395 assists on the season, while freshman setter Lauren Duncan<\/a> has added 196.

\nDefensively, WVU ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 in total blocks and No. 3 in team digs. Freshman defensive specialist\/libero Reagan Turk<\/a> leads the Mountaineers with 197 digs, while senior middle blocker Maddy McGath<\/a> paces the Mountaineers with 66 blocks. Freshman middle blocker Mirjam Karoliine Kask<\/a> follows with 58 blocks.

\nHouston (9-5, 2-1 Big 12) is coming off a 3-1 win over Cincinnati in Houston. The Cougars dropped the first set before winning the next three.

\nThe UH attack is led by junior outside hitter Sydney Jones, who has totaled 216 kills on the season. Junior setter Kalei Edson orchestrates the offense, leading the squad with 421 assists.

\nDefensively, sophomore middle blocker Tara Greenberry leads Houston with 43 blocks on the year. Senior middle blocker Alexis Roberson trails Greenberry with 37 blocks this season.

\nSophomore libero Mattie Casale anchors the Cougars’ back row with 174 digs.

\nSunday’s match marks the seventh all-time meeting between West Virginia and Houston. The Cougars lead the series, 5-1, while the Mountaineers are 1-1 in Morgantown. WVU head coach Jen Greeny<\/a> is 1-1 against Houston.

\nUH head coach David Rehr is in his eighth season with the program, sporting a 132-85 record during that time. Overall, he is 673-228 over 27 seasons.
