An arrest has been made in a 32-year-old cold case where a woman was murdered in Dallas.

Dallas police said 55-year-old Tommie Davis was found murdered inside her residence in the 1500 block of Haskell Avenue on May 18, 1993. At the time, the only investigative leads were minor damage to the front door and some missing items.

32 years later, a break in the case was made after Detective Isom began reinvestigating the case and submitted several items of evidence for forensic testing. Testing revealed that blood located on a wall inside the residence did not belong to Davis.

According to police, the DNA profile obtained from the blood was entered into the Combined DNA Index System and returned a match to Tommy Lynn Jones. It was later revealed that Tommy Lynn Jones was an alias used by 56-year-old Gary Len Ross.

“The Dallas Police Department is committed to pursuing justice in every case, no matter how much time has passed,” said Major Bobbie Epperson of the Dallas Police Department’s CAPERS Unit. “Detective Isom’s meticulous and persistent work exemplifies the dedication of our CAPERS Unit. We hope this arrest brings a measure of closure to Ms. Davis’s family and serves as a reminder that justice will always be pursued.”

Detective Isom was able to obtain an arrest warrant through evidence including the manner of death and Ross’s connection to Davis. Ross was found and arrested on Oct. 2.

Ross was charged with Capital Murder and is currently being held at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center.

An arrest has been made in a 32-year-old cold case where a woman was murdered in Dallas.
