An hours-long police standoff in a Lake Worth neighborhood on Saturday ended with the arrest of a man after a large law enforcement presence kept neighbors on edge for much of the afternoon.<\/p>\n
The incident unfolded in the 4200 block of Canyon Trail, where neighbors said they first noticed heavy police activity around noon.<\/p>\n
Lake Worth police officers responded to a welfare concern at 11:33 a.m. Upon arrival, officers were met by 40-year-old Anthony Danenza in the front yard, who retreated into the house and grabbed a handgun. <\/p>\n
Officials said the man fired the handgun from inside his house and barricaded himself inside. <\/p>\n
A safety perimeter was set up around the residence following the gunshot. A SWAT team and several Fort Worth police officers responded to the scene, using loudspeakers to repeatedly order a man to drop his weapon. At one point, a woman could also be heard over a loudspeaker pleading with him to “come home.”<\/p>\n
As the situation continued, officers urged residents to stay inside their homes while negotiators worked to resolve the standoff.<\/p>\n
“It actually made us more and more concerned every minute,” said neighbor Serena Ponder, who lives nearby. “So many guns, police officers and very scary.”<\/p>\n
Several loud bangs were also heard during the operation. <\/p>\n
“We have children, so we were wondering what was going on,” Ponder said. <\/p>\n
After several hours, another bang resulted in a cloud of smoke before officers took a man into custody around 3 p.m.<\/p>\n
When police later cleared the scene, a pickup truck was towed out of the home’s driveway with several bullet holes through the side and back windows. <\/p>\n
Neighbors said they were relieved the situation ended without further incident.<\/p>\n
“We’ve never even seen anything like this,” Ponder said.<\/p>\n
Ponder said the experience was a reminder that difficult situations can impact any community.<\/p>\n
“You never know what people are going through,” her husband added. <\/p>\n
“People are going through so much. This is somebody’s life. We’re hoping everyone is okay,” Ponder said. <\/p>\n
