Since Thursday, some spots in the Austin metro area have picked up half of their typical monthly rainfall, while other communities in the Hill Country have received between 3 and 6 inches.

But October also is one of our wettest months of the year. Austin averages 3.91 inches of rain in October, second only to May, which averages about 5 inches.

While the deep tropical air mass will shift into Southeast Texas, we could still see some spotty rain on Sunday. The best chance will be during the first half of the day before dry air moves in from the northwest and helps clear some of the clouds during the afternoon.

Temperatures will be cooler than normal, with afternoon highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. After last month’s extreme heat, those numbers are going to feel downright cool — at least by Texas standards.

And if you don’t get any showers, Sunday might just be the perfect excuse to visit a local pumpkin patch and grab a hot beverage while you’re there.

Yes, Central Texas will see a gradual warming trend as drier air continues to take over the Lone Star State. However, it won’t be until midweek that temperatures climb back to our early-October average high of 87 degrees, with afternoons potentially a degree or two warmer by the end of the week.

Winds will maintain a north to northeasterly flow through the week, with light to moderate wind speeds.

Luckily, it looks like the wet weather will continue and off through the middle of the month.

The latest long-range outlooks from the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center calls for wetter weather with above-normal rainfall across Central and South Texas. Unfortunately, it’s also forecasting for warmer, above-normal temperatures.

It would be easy to get used to the rainy weather and cooler temperatures we’ve enjoyed over the last few days, but don’t get too comfortable just yet. We’ll likely see a return to warmer weather, with a few 90-degree days possible in Austin over the next couple of weeks.

Since Thursday, some spots in the Austin metro area have picked up half of their typical monthly rainfall,…

[11
132,134,133
post-456131","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-austin","tag-austin","tag-austin-headlines","tag-austin-news
["GET
