This week, Dallas opened the new fiscal year with 3,410 sworn officers, 590 short of the 4,000-officer minimum voters added to the City Charter. Downtown crime and response times improved, but AT&T’s planned departure put the city’s comeback under a brighter spotlight.

City Hall also closed libraries and recreation centers for a final furlough day, shut down 321 state-funded Flock cameras while hundreds remained active, and faced new questions about DART and a lawsuit seeking more than $20 million over Fair Park.

Across Texas, a Muslim voter-registration push, Christian turnout efforts and scrutiny of Muslim Student Associations drove several of the week’s biggest stories. Public and undercover recordings also showed how Democratic candidates and officials discussed the Democratic Socialists of America. Immigration cases, Dallas crime and major North Texas job announcements rounded out the week.

Here are the stories and updates that helped shape the week.

Dallas public safety and taxpayer accountability

Why It Matters: Dallas entered the fiscal year with 3,410 sworn officers, 590 short of the 4,000-officer minimum voters added to the City Charter. Furlough closures, fewer Flock cameras, DART concerns and a Fair Park lawsuit put the same question in front of City Hall: Are taxpayers getting safer streets and dependable basic services?

Muslim mobilization, churches and campus influence

Why It Matters: A McKinney gathering featured a call for Islam’s spread as CAIR pursued a national goal of 2 million net new Muslim voter registrations in 2026. Christian leaders responded with their own turnout push, while other reports examined Muslim Student Associations and Oklahoma’s fight over a mosque proposal.

DSA activity, elections and prosecutor oversight

Why It Matters: Public and undercover recordings showed Hasan Piker urging the left to pressure Talarico, a congressional candidate praising DSA’s organizing and a Texas House nominee confirming his DSA affiliation. The week also brought scrutiny of Talarico’s support among black Democrats, outside influence on prosecutors and the Supreme Court’s restoration of expanded voter checks.

Immigration enforcement and Dallas crime

Why It Matters: The week’s immigration cases included a twice-deported illegal alien with seven DWI convictions, an alleged cash-for-approvals scheme and an assault charge tied to an Austin ICE operation. North Texas also saw a $2.3 million credit union fraud sentence, proposed trucking-safety penalties and a 19-defendant Dallas drug-trafficking case.

Campuses, curriculum and school choice

Why It Matters: TCU coursework centered on ‘settler colonialism,’ structural violence and decolonial thinking, while UT Austin removed women’s, ‘gender,’ sexuality and race-focused classes from its core curriculum. Texas also released a second round of Education Freedom Account funding as the state’s school-choice program moved forward.

Jobs, manufacturing and North Texas growth

Why It Matters: Morgan Stanley confirmed a $684 million Dallas hub expected to support more than 3,800 jobs, while President Trump’s planned visit to Peterbilt’s Denton plant put Texas manufacturing in the national spotlight. The week also brought factory-job growth, $10.4 million for technical training at five Texas colleges and 46,000 new private-sector jobs nationwide as government payrolls declined.

That was the week. If you missed it, now you are caught up.

Traffic moves along a major freeway near downtown Dallas | Image by Cavan-Images/Shutterstock Last week’s Did You Miss…

[9
102,104,103,401,133859,52025,1830,2135,11100,156386,430,9298
post-456151","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dallas","tag-dallas","tag-dallas-headlines","tag-dallas-news","tag-dallas-police","tag-democratic-socialists-of-america","tag-did-you-miss-it","tag-immigration-enforcement","tag-james-talarico","tag-morgan-stanley","tag-muslim-mobilization","tag-north-texas","tag-proposition-u
["GET
