It\u2019s why he told ESPN before the game that he expected a blowout against the Houston Texans on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously I was wrong about that,\u201d Prescott said with a laugh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/article\/cowboys-texans-five-thoughts-ceedee-lamb-22458951.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after the Cowboys survived with a 34-30 victory<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That doesn\u2019t mean all of his optimism is misplaced, however. Earlier in the week, Prescott had the last question in wide receiver CeeDee Lamb\u2019s press briefing. Prescott asked Lamb if he thinks he can be guarded. Lamb, without hesitation, said no.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTold you so,\u201d Prescott said to The Dallas Morning News after He caught a career-high 17 catches for 189 yards in his Houston homecoming. His touchdown catch with 40 seconds left proved to be the game-winner in one the Cowboys, now 2-2, desperately needed.<\/p>\n<p>It was Lamb\u2019s third straight game with over 100 yards receiving, marking the fourth time in his career he\u2019s had such a stretch. He also passed Drew Pearson \u2014 the founding member of the No. 88 club \u2014 for fourth all-time in franchise history for receiving. He now has 7,914 career receiving yards four weeks into his seventh season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCeeDee played the way he always plays,\u201d Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. \u201cDynamite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Jason\u00a0Witten,\u00a012,977\u00a0(2003-19)<br \/>\nMichael\u00a0Irvin,\u00a011,904\u00a0(1988-99)<br \/>\n\u00a0Tony Hill, 7,988 (1977-86)<br \/>\n\u00a0CeeDee Lamb, 7,914 (2020-present)<br \/>\n\u00a0Drew Pearson, 7,822 (1973-83)<\/p>\n<p>With plenty of gunpowder on Sunday. Lamb\u2019s 21 targets were the second most in franchise history. After the game, Lamb was quick to defend Schottenheimer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/article\/cowboys-communication-breakdowns-focus-week-22459695.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who drew a lot of criticism<\/a> after the team\u2019s loss the week before in Rio de Janeiro.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want [Schottenheimer] to know that I got his back. I\u2019m with him. I\u2019m one of his strongest soldiers. It\u2019s just going to battle with each other. I feel like once you have that confidence and know who you\u2019re going to battle with, just shoot your gun, and I feel like he shot it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prescott did, too. He said he didn\u2019t know how many times he had targeted Lamb until he saw the box score after the game. Pickens said he definitely wondered that, though he understood why the Texans continued to cover Lamb the way they did. Pickens didn\u2019t have many one-on-one opportunities Sunday, but he did take advantage of it on a 53-yard jump ball reception in the second half.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pickens said he\u2019s OK being patient for his chances, even if they\u2019re few and far between like they were Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about engineering victory,\u201d Pickens said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So far, Lamb might be the key to doing that. Lamb has 37 receptions for 498 yards and four touchdowns through four games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>In a way, these first four games have been a reminder of just how good Lamb can be. It\u2019s come on the heels of Lamb\u2019s lowest receiving-yard season since his rookie year. Lamb missed four games last year. Coaches have also said he dealt with injuries even when he played. After last season, there was more attention in training camp on\u00a0Pickens \u2014 just as the Texans defense showed Sunday\u00a0\u2014 than Lamb.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s made Lamb\u2019s reminder about his ability even louder.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can just see it in the way he practices,\u201d fellow receiver Ryan Flournoy said. \u201cHe wants to be the best and he put it on display today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flournoy said that confidence could be felt in the huddle, too. There was a poise to Lamb throughout Sunday\u2019s game, Flournoy said. There was a methodical confidence that was only deterred once\u00a0\u2014 when a miscommunication between Lamb and Prescott resulted in a missed touchdown opportunity when Lamb beat his defender on a double move. Aside from that, Lamb didn\u2019t focus on much else. He didn\u2019t focus on the fact he was playing at Reliant Stadium for the first time, though he grew up only 30 miles away in Richmond.
