It spreads from person to person, and Texas Health recommends getting a flu vaccine every year and practicing frequent handwashing to help prevent infection.

Flu symptoms typically begin one to four days after someone is infected. Common symptoms include:

Suddenly feeling very sickFever and chillsCough and sore throatRunny or stuffy noseBody achesHeadacheFatigueVomiting and diarrhea, which are more common in young children

People can spread the flu during the first three to four days after becoming sick. However, some people can spread the virus beginning one day before they feel sick and for as long as five to seven days after becoming sick.

How to prevent the flu

Texas Health recommends several steps to reduce the risk of getting or spreading the flu:

Get a flu vaccine every year.Stay away from people who are sick.Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes and throw used tissues away.Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, particularly after coughing, sneezing or using the restroom. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

Flu, COVID-19, RSV or a cold? Here’s how they differ

Flu, COVID-19, RSV and the common cold can cause similar symptoms, so Texas Health recommends talking with a doctor and notes that tests are available to diagnose flu, RSV and COVID-19.

According to the Texas Health comparison guide, the flu tends to start quickly, while a cold generally develops more gradually. Fever, chills, headaches and body aches are common with the flu, while some of those symptoms are less common with a cold. Fatigue also can be more pronounced and last longer with the flu.

North Texans can access free flu shots across Dallas-Fort Worth this fall, with clinics offering vaccines on a…

[10
116,118,117
post-456827","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-worth","tag-fort-worth","tag-fort-worth-headlines","tag-fort-worth-news
["GET
