Macaroni Co.—founded in Fort Worth in 1899—and its sister brand, Q&Q Pasta, have been acquired by the Temple-based McLane Group.

Century-Old Legacy: The purchase preserves two of Texas’ oldest and most iconic pasta brands, widely found in regional grocers like H-E-B and Kroger.

Preserving Roots: While financial terms were not disclosed, McLane Group leadership and Q&Q Pasta President Frank J. Case III emphasized a shared commitment to maintaining product quality and honoring the brands’ century-long heritage.

A Century of Texas Pasta History

What began in 1899 as the Fort Worth Macaroni Co. has officially changed hands. Originally established by local businessmen Giovanni Bastista Laneri and Louis Bicocchi, the company capitalized on its proximity to railroad lines to swiftly distribute its products across the American Southwest.

For 115 years, the business operated out of a distinctive triangular, 1860 landmark building on South Freeway near downtown Fort Worth—a former stagecoach hotel. Although the company relocated to a modern facility in 2015 to complement its operations in Austin and Louisiana, its deep roots in Tarrant County remained a cornerstone of its identity. The historic Fort Worth property has since been repurposed to house local food vendors and a wedding venue.

The acquisition also includes Q&Q Pasta (originally Quality and Quantity Pasta), founded in 1910. Known heavily for its vermicelli—a staple in making traditional Mexican fideo dishes—the brand has remained a kitchen favorite across generations of Texans.

The Buyer: McLane Group

The purchasing company, McLane Group, is a private holding company based in Temple, Texas. It was launched in 1992 by former Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane Jr. following the sale of McLane Company Inc. to Walmart. Today, the global food distributor and manufacturer oversees a diverse portfolio spanning international food distribution, IT services, and software development, alongside regional food production facilities like Burleson-based McLane Classic Foods.

Officials from the McLane Group stated that they are eager to serve as stewards of these legacy brands, ensuring they maintain the high quality and tradition that loyal customers have depended on for more than 100 years.

“We are pleased to become stewards of these historic Texas brands,” said Frank J. Case III, president of Q&Q Pasta. “Our goal is to respect what has made O.B. Macaroni and Q&Q special for so many years and to remain true to their roots as we look toward the future.”

Key Takeaways Historic Acquisition: The O.B.
