Austin recorded nearly 2 inches of rain<\/a> in just the first three days of October, but the forecast is set to turn sunnier and drier Monday.<\/p>\n

Camp Mabry, the city\u2019s official climate site, measured the rain as a wetter stretch gives way to more comfortable weather. A possible disturbance over the Gulf of Mexico could complicate the forecast later in the week, though its development and any effects on Central Texas remain uncertain.<\/p>\n

Monday will be mostly sunny and dry<\/a> as drier air moves into the area. Highs should reach the low to mid-80s, with a few upper 80s possible south and west of the city.<\/p>\n

The dry pattern should continue into the week, with highs in the 80s and lower humidity. Drier air will also bring cooler mornings, with lows dipping into the upper 50s in parts of the Hill Country and the low to mid-60s elsewhere. Afternoons will remain warm, as is typical for early October.<\/p>\n

The National Hurricane Center says a broad area of low pressure<\/a> could form over the Bay of Campeche in the southern Gulf of Mexico in a few days and drift northward. Development is unlikely in the next two days, with a 30% chance of formation over the next seven days.<\/p>\n

The possible system is associated with a Central American Gyre, a sprawling area of low pressure that can extend across Central America and nearby parts of the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific. Its broad, counterclockwise circulation brings warm, moist air together.
