A tiny Rio Grande Valley<\/a> community is under a boil water notice as officials work to repair the city\u2019s only water treatment plant. But on social media, frustrated residents have been asking what water they should boil, since their taps have been dry for days. At the same time, recent storms have dumped inches of rain across the region<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo residents and customers of the City of La\u00a0Grulla Water System. We are currently conducting repairs at the City\u2019s Water Plant. There will be areas throughout the water system that will experience water outages and other areas that will experience low water pressure,\u201d officials in La Grulla, a Starr County town of about 1,200 people, announced on Facebook<\/a> on Thursday, October 1.<\/p>\n

By Saturday, officials announced that the water plant<\/a> repairs had been completed. But still, for residents of La\u00a0Grulla and the nearby unincorporated communities of Alto Bonito, La Victoria and La Paloma, nothing has flowed from taps for days.<\/p>\n

\u201cRepairs were made to our water system late last night. Unfortunately, our outdated water infrastructure has suffered failures, and we are slowly working to renew and replace it,\u201d La\u00a0Grulla<\/a> officials said Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

That night, just before 8\u00a0p.m., the city took to Facebook again to announce that water was beginning to flow through the system. And by 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, the city issued a boil water notice<\/a>. But in both posts, residents asked, \u201cWhat water?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust took a shower with rain water in a bucket,\u201d a resident who goes by \u201cColorado Red\u201d replied after midnight on Sunday, October 4.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan we know exactly what water we are supposed to boil \u00a0and where there is (water) because this means there is a place that has water??\u201d Itzayana Ozuna replied beneath Sunday\u2019s boil water advisory.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre the residents being mocked with this update? Or is this in reference to the rain water some residents have been collecting and having to utilize?\u201d another resident named\u00a0Eu Faith commented.<\/p>\n

While La\u00a0Grulla has been contending with failing water infrastructure, residents have also had to contend with torrential rains<\/a> after \u00a0the remnants of Hurricane Polo and a slow-moving cold front collided with a wave of tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico late last week. The unsettled weather system resulted in a long weekend of storms that dumped several inches of rain across the entire four-county Valley region.
