GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas (KXII) – Kyle Holtz is the new airport manager at North Texas Regional Airport.<\/p>\n
Holtz met with county leaders at commissioners court Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was walking around all the areas and stuff like that, meeting people in the area. And it\u2019s just really homey,\u201d Holtz said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like to think of the county as a whole as a team and it\u2019s a team effort. We\u2019re one big family under the county umbrella. He\u2019s going to be a great asset to that team,\u201d said Bruce Dawsey, Grayson County judge.<\/p>\n
One of Holtz\u2019s main priorities is community engagement.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat do they want to see North Texas Regional Airport could become, whether it\u2019s commercial service in 10, 15 years, which takes a lot of effort, but it takes community support to get to that stage, or whether we grow with the subcontractors,\u201d Holtz said.<\/p>\n
The airport was built by the Air Force in the 1950s as Perrin Air Force Base.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of the things that were put in place years ago that maybe weren\u2019t done within standards. He\u2019s already pointed some of those things out that needs to be corrected,\u201d Dawsey said.<\/p>\n
Dawsey said the airport has infrastructure needs that date back to its construction by the Air Force in the 1950s.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s infrastructure needs that need to be addressed and he can recognize those,\u201d Dawsey said. \u201cWe\u2019re really looking forward to what his knowledge and experience brings to us.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m passionate about aviation. My wife and I wanted to come here. We want to be here in Grayson County. We\u2019re here for the long run and hopefully retire in 30 years,\u201d Holtz said.<\/p>\n
Dawsey said Holtz and his wife previously lived in Concord, North Carolina, before taking the Grayson County position.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis enthusiasm for wanting to get back to Texas and stay here for the long term. He\u2019s not just one of these guys that is looking to come here as a stepping ladder or a step in the ladder to success. He wants to be here long term,\u201d Dawsey said.<\/p>\n
Dawsey said he is hoping for stability at the airport going forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cSomeone that\u2019s forward thinking that can look at it and see the potential that\u2019s there to be able to work with other businesses to bring in opportunities for growth in the county at the airport and just knowing what needs to be done on a daily basis out there,\u201d Dawsey said.<\/p>\n
