On Monday, Patton shared some of her most encouraging news yet: She will not need chemotherapy or radiation.<\/p>\n

“What I’m being told to do is endocrine therapy instead,” Patton said in an Oct. 5 video. “As a sweet friend reminded me, cancer treatment is a wonderful, terrible thing. Yes, it can cure cancer, but not without a cost.”<\/p>\n

Still, Patton said her recovery has not moved as quickly as she hoped.<\/p>\n

She recently went into an appointment with her surgeon expecting a “glowing report” and to have several stitches removed. Instead, the stitches had to remain in place.<\/p>\n

“Healing is happening, but just not as fast as I want it to,” Patton said. “I can’t will something to be.”<\/p>\n

The setback capped an emotional week for Patton, who said she has been learning to accept how little control she has over the course of her recovery.<\/p>\n

“The unexpected delays and detours are something I’m learning to lean into, but it’s not always easy,” she said.<\/p>\n

Patton has made her Christian faith a central part of the updates, frequently sharing prayers, Bible verses and messages from followers who have gone through cancer and other serious illnesses.<\/p>\n

In a Sept. 26 post, she described meeting another MD Anderson patient while shopping at Central Market<\/a>. The woman, who Patton said was being treated for leukemia, told her that following Patton’s story gave her the courage to finally tell her son about her own cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Patton’s diagnosis came during another major transition. Just weeks earlier, she announced that the 11th season of\u00a0Goodtaste with Tanji\u00a0would be its last as she shifted her attention to her faith-based podcast,\u00a0Goodtaste for the Soul.<\/p>\n

The Houston native launched\u00a0Goodtaste online in 2008 before bringing the food and wine series to television in 2016. Patton previously spent 17 years at News 4 San Antonio, where she worked as a reporter, anchor and host.<\/p>\n

She recorded Monday’s update from her Houston home before filming another episode of her podcast.<\/p>\n
