The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning major nightly closures on I-35.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning Monday, October 5, at 10 p.m., the northbound and southbound I-35 frontage roads at Howard Lane will close nightly in 15-minute rolling intervals. The construction site is in North Austin, near John B. Connally High School.<\/p>\n<p>The shutdowns will last no more than 15 minutes. They will occur on a rolling basis in all directions, according to the agency&#8217;s post on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TxDOTAustin\/status\/2106958868832047436?s=46&amp;t=PQ1xt8MDEaZ-zilDwnHM3g\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">X.com<\/a>. Crews will work nightly through 5 a.m. Thursday, October 8.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It may prove inconvenient for some heading home after work or after-school activities. TxDOT says the closure is to allow staff to conduct overhead utility installations.<\/p>\n<p>The closures are part of a larger initiative, the I-35 Capital Express (CAPEX) North Project, which the agency says includes adding &#8220;one high-occupancy vehicle managed lane in each direction along I-35 between SH 45 North and US 290 East.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In addition, the project will reconstruct bridges, relocate and reconstruct entrance and exit ramps, add a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/traffic\/article\/diverging-diamond-san-antonio-22453410.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">diverging diamond<\/a> interchange (DDI) at Wells Branch Parkway, add pedestrian and bicycle paths, and make additional safety and mobility improvements within the project limits,&#8221; TxDOT&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/dd%20one%20high-occupancy%20vehicle%20managed%20lane%20in%20each%20direction%20along%20I-35%20between%20SH%2045%20North%20and%20US%20290%20East.%20In%20addition,%20the%20project%20will%20reconstruct%20bridges,%20relocate%20and%20reconstruct%20entrance%20and%20exit%20ramps,%20add%20a%20diverging%20diamond%20interchange%20(DDI)%20at%20Wells%20Branch%20Parkway,%20add%20pedestrian%20and%20bicycle%20paths%20and%20make%20additional%20safety%20and%20mobility%20improvements%20within%20the%20project%20limits.\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">website<\/a> states.<\/p>\n<p>The large-scale expansion is expected to be completed in early 2029.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Texans working late will encounter traffic delays this week.
