The Seventh Court of Appeals in Amarillo granted Mark Meurer\u2019s request to dismiss his appeal against Jason Corley on Sept. 30 and ordered Meurer to pay the court costs.<\/p>\n

The civil appeal arose from the dispute over Lubbock County\u2019s Precinct 2 commissioner seat. The court said Meurer\u2019s agreed motion requested voluntary dismissal and also assessed court costs against him. The court ruling did not address the merits of the appeal itself.<\/p>\n

Meurer announced in a written statment on September 16th that he would withdrawell his appeal and return the full amount of salary payments<\/a> he received. <\/p>\n

The court directed its mandate to be issued immediately and said it would entertain no motion for rehearing. The order was filed October 1st in Lubbock County\u2019s 237th District Court.<\/p>\n

This dismissal is separate from any pending criminal investigation<\/a> into nearly $70,000 in county salary payments to Meurer while Corley occupied the commissioner\u2019s seat. Lubbock Lights has no information regarding any specific person under criminal investigation related to these payments.<\/p>\n

Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney Sunshine Stanek recused her office from the investigation <\/a>and later referred it to the Midland County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The 7th Court\u2019s ruling as to cost does not address whether Lubbock County paid any of Meurer\u2019s attorney\u2019s fees.<\/p>\n
