Hobert opened her set with \u201cI like to touch people,\u201d immediately establishing the unserious, slightly unhinged tone that would carry through the rest of her performance. She appeared onstage standing on a ladder, wearing a ridiculously long trench coat and a comical disguise mask. Underneath it? Another, shorter trench coat.<\/p>\n

Hobert\u2019s fans sang along to practically every word, from \u201cThirst Trap\u201d to \u201cPhoebe,\u201d proving that her appeal isn\u2019t just in the catchy hooks or TikTok virality. Her lyrics feel like the debrief you have with your best friend after ending a summer situationship \u2014 the kind of conversation where you analyze every text, every red flag and every regrettable decision until it finally becomes funny.<\/p>\n

She has drawn comparisons to Taylor Swift for her\u00a0lyricism, but dare I say Hobert might be better? She is unashamed of being completely herself.<\/p>\n

Her songs are about gin and tonics. Watching \u201cSex and the City\u201d and \u201cFriends\u201d and wondering why it took her so long to start. Getting to the bar before your date and\u00a0overthinking the fact that you got there first in \u201cWet Hair.\u201d<\/p>\n
That specificity is part of what makes\u00a0Hobert\u2019s songwriting work. She takes the tiny, embarrassing, deeply mundane moments of being a young person and turns them into something thousands of people can scream back at her.<\/p>\n
At ACL Fest, that connection was impossible to miss.<\/p>\n

When she performed \u201cThirst Trap,\u201d the title felt comically fitting. Thousands of festivalgoers stood in muddy Zilker Park, phones raised to document themselves for Instagram despite the rainy conditions \u2014 and, perhaps more importantly, despite the smell. Good times. Let\u2019s take a picture.<\/p>\n
Hobert seemed to understand exactly how ridiculous it all was.<\/p>\n

At one point, she told the crowd it was in her contract that it stops raining when she performs.\u00a0And, somehow, she willed it into existence.<\/p>\n
For the first time all weekend, the clouds began to break. Blue sky appeared above the\u00a0T-Mobile stage, and sunlight spilled over the crowd.<\/p>\n

In an electrifying set, singer-songwriter Audrey Hobert performed at ACL Festival on Sunday. The sun poked out from the clouds for a brief moment during her performance, giving fans a reminder of what Austin is normally like \u2014 and a break from ACL Mudfest.<\/p>\n
Hobert sang “Sue Me” twice, as she has been doing at previous performances, to give the crowd a phones-off experience for her hit song.<\/p>\n

Then came \u201cSue Me.\u201d And not just once, but twice.<\/p>\n

The first time, she ran around the stage while fans pulled out their phones, trying to capture the moment. The second time, she told everyone to put their phones away.<\/p>\n
As the rain finally let up, the sky cleared and the sun came out over a muddy Zilker Park, I reached something approaching euphoria.<\/p>\n
Maybe that was the magic of\u00a0Hobert\u2019s set. It felt like hanging out with the funniest, weirdest friend you have \u2014 the one who says exactly what everyone else is thinking.<\/p>\n
