Phase 2 of the $709 million Interstate 35E project is still underway, and upcoming overnight roadwork is expected to affect motorists between Dallas and Carrollton.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Road work for the second phase of the project began in 2022, and is expected to finish in spring 2027, according to The Texas Department of Transportation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
TxDOT is widening and reconstructing 6.39 miles of the interstate from Interstate 635 in Dallas County to the Denton County line. Managed lanes and frontage roads will be reconstructed, and one general purpose lane will be added in each direction.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Corridor studies along I-35E began in 1998, with the first phase of construction beginning 15 years later. Phase one, referred to as the I-35E Managed Lanes Project, was completed in 2018. As construction on one of the region\u2019s longest running projects continues, here\u2019s what closures commuters can expect this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The northbound and southbound lanes of I-35E were reduced to one lane between Interstate 635 and President George Bush Turnpike Sunday and reopened Monday morning. However, work is expected to continue until Friday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday, the following road closures will take place and reopen at 6 a.m. Wednesday:<\/p>\n
These road closures occur at 9 p.m. Tuesday and reopen at 6 a.m. Wednesday, again at 9 p.m. Wednesday with a reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday and a third closure at 9 p.m. Thursday, finally opening at 6 a.m. Friday:<\/p>\n
Starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday, the northbound frontage road between the Valwood Parkway entrance ramp and Crosby Road will close and reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday.<\/p>\n
The following closures will begin at 9 p.m. Wednesday and reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday, followed by a 9 p.m. Thursday closure and 6 a.m. Friday reopen:<\/p>\n
The northbound frontage road between Belt Line Road and Sandy Lake Road, and the President George Bush Turnpike exit ramp will close at 9 p.m. Thursday and reopen at 6 a.m. Friday.<\/p>\n
Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, the following closures will take place and reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday:<\/p>\n
