The council districts cover South Oak Cliff as well as the southernmost part of the city that stretches from the Duncanville border east toward Mesquite.

Police call the initiative 10/90 because it is based on the department’s belief that about 10% of people in a community are responsible for crimes that affect the other 90%, Sgt. Sheldon Smith said.

Of the 102 arrests, police said 72 were for felony offenses and 30 were for misdemeanors. Seventy-one people were arrested on outstanding warrants, including 44 felony warrants.

“As a result of our collaborative partnerships with the United States Marshal Service and other federal agencies, we were able to apprehend and put bad guys in jail,” Smith said.

Executive Assistant Police Chief Terrence Rhodes said Dallas police and the U.S. Marshals Service have worked together to arrest more than 800 people since last year.

The U.S. Marshals Service highlighted one arrest: Mysiah Clark, who was taken into custody Sept. 4 in Dallas. Sean Malecha, acting U.S. marshal for the Northern District of Texas, said Clark was wanted after removing a court-ordered ankle monitor while facing a Dallas murder charge. Clark is also accused in another killing in Forney, Malecha said.

Officials didn’t release the names of anyone else arrested or a detailed breakdown of their cases. Dallas police Maj. Breanna Valentine said the felony arrests included people accused of gun, drug and robbery offenses. Asked how many weapons officers seized, Valentine said she didn’t have that information.

Police also issued 345 traffic citations for violations including speeding, driving without insurance or a license, and running red lights or stop signs, Valentine said.

Smith described Operation 10/90 as “fluid,” saying police can move the effort to different parts of the city based on crime statistics and information from residents. During the September operation, traffic officers also worked around school zones, neighborhoods, stop signs and areas where crashes had occurred.

Officials offered little explanation for why districts 4 and 8 were selected first.

“We receive complaints in those areas, but I mean, we receive complaints all across the city,” Smith said. “You have to start somewhere.”

Dallas police and U.S. Marshals officials said Tuesday that a monthlong enforcement operation sting in southern Dallas led…

[9
102,104,103,156909,89216,87998,89139
post-458507","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dallas","tag-dallas","tag-dallas-headlines","tag-dallas-news","tag-tp-u-s-marshals","tag-tp-crime","tag-tp-dallas","tag-tp-dallas-police
["GET
