Dallas-based UpSmith raised a $10 million Series A round to expand its engineering and sales teams and ramp up partnerships. The startup’s AI platform helps home-services contractors find and act on otherwise missed revenue opportunities.

SemperVirens led the round. Other investors include Hannah Grey Ventures, Asymmetric Capital Partners, CIV, Synetro Group, the Tim Tebow-affiliated WaterStone Impact Fund, former OpenAI executive Colin Evans of Sandwith Ventures, Deason Capital Services and OpenGov co-founder Zachary Bookman. SemperVirens General Partner Allison Baum Gates and Rob Biederman, managing partner at Asymmetric Capital Partners, are joining UpSmith’s board.

This round is the startup’s largest to date. In 2024, UpSmith raised $5 million in seed funding. Two years earlier, it collected $3.3 million in pre-seed capital.

Expanding the workforce

UpSmith said it will put some of the fresh capital toward growing its engineering and sales teams.

Today, the startup employs 15 people, most of them in Dallas, founder and CEO Wyatt Smith told Dallas Innovates.

About half of UpSmith’s employees work in engineering and product development, he said.

“We plan to ramp our investment in building world-class AI products for our customers over the next 12 to 18 months by expanding this team,” Smith said.

Another priority: adding more account executives. UpSmith’s new head of sales, Austen Wise, oversees the sales team, Smith said. The team focuses on small and midsize HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors. However, the startup said the home-services sector is only its initial target.

UpSmith also plans to foster more business relationships, Smith said.

“We’re expanding our work with multibrand home services platforms that operate dozens of local trades companies, where one deal can reach many brands and thousands of technicians,” he said.

The startup also said it plans to roll out an AI voice agent for inbound customer calls. Data from those calls will be coupled with a customer’s UpSmith history.

How UpSmith works

Stale project estimates, missed calls, overdue maintenance, expiring customer memberships and inactive customers pile up at home-services companies, UpSmith said. Following up on those opportunities requires time and staff that many of those companies lack.

UpSmith’s AI agents identify and act on those opportunities, “turning untapped customer demand into measurable results, including thousands of booked jobs and millions of dollars in revenue for contractors,” the startup said.

“We believe AI should power the people who power America. The skilled trades are the backbone of this country, and we’re building technology that solves real problems for contractors, delivers measurable results and helps their businesses grow,” Smith said in a statement. “This funding allows us to put more powerful tools in the hands of the people who keep America running.”

UpSmith, founded in 2022, said it has built a customer roster of more than 200 home-services operators in the U.S.

Real-world example

In its Series A announcement, UpSmith cited examples of customers benefiting from the startup’s AI platform. For instance, Carrollton-based HVAC and plumbing contractor Medley generated $147,000 in new revenue over a three-month span and reduced cancellations by 25%, UpSmith said.

“The skilled trades are the backbone of the American economy, yet the technology built for these businesses has historically lagged behind the critical role they play,” Baum Gates said in a statement.

“UpSmith is delivering measurable results for contractors across the country,” she said, “and its growth over the past several months shows the demand for technology that can help these businesses operate and grow.”

R E A D N E X T

North Texas has plenty to see, hear, and watch. Here are our editors’ picks.
