AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 Police are investigating after a man was found dead early Tuesday near a Northeast Austin bus stop.<\/p>\n

Officers were called to the 1000 block of Norwood Park Boulevard just before 5:30 a.m. after a CapMetro bus driver reported seeing a man lying at a bus stop with blood around him, said Cpl. Jose Mendez with the Austin Police Department. <\/p>\n

No one else was around at the time, Mendez said.<\/p>\n

The man, described as being in his 60s or 70s, had obvious signs of trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene at about 5:34 a.m. Police have not said how he died or released his name.<\/p>\n

Mendez said the killing appears to be an isolated incident and does not seem to be random. He said there is no ongoing threat to the community but encouraged people to stay aware of their surroundings.<\/p>\n

Officers and homicide detectives are canvassing the area, speaking with businesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the nearby Walmart and gas station.<\/p>\n

“I want to reassure the family that we will do everything we can to determine what took place here today and who’s responsible,” Mendez said.<\/p>\n

Police said people may see an increased police presence in the area for now.<\/p>\n

It is Austin’s 45th homicide of 2026, according to police.<\/p>\n
