Road rage leads to crash and shooting involving several people on West Loop, police say<\/a><\/p>\nPolice say the suspects opened fire on a man and his wife while they were traveling with their 8-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n
The man, who was shot in the face, declined to comment to Eyewitness News.<\/p>\n
But according to charging documents, he told police he believes the suspects were upset about a lane change he’d made.<\/p>\n
The victim told police that as he was speeding past a black Camaro and a silver truck, his wife told him that she had been shot in the arm.<\/p>\n
He said he then heard a gunshot as he was passing the Camaro, which police said was being driven by Luis Santos.<\/p>\n
The victim said he ducked to avoid being hit by bullets and ended up crashing into the Camaro at San Felipe.<\/p>\n
He said the driver of the Camaro then opened fire on his SUV again.<\/p>\n
The pickup truck had already passed them at that point, the victim told investigators. But he said the truck did a U-turn and then drove back towards them the wrong way.<\/p>\n
When the victim tried driving away, he said the truck made another U-turn and drove alongside him. That’s when he said he saw the driver point a gun with a green laser at him and he was shot in the face.<\/p>\n
Police say Luis Santos admitted to shooting at the victim but claimed he only did it because the victim fired at him first.<\/p>\n
Investigators say they found no evidence that the victims were armed.<\/p>\n
Justin Keiter, the attorney representing Luis Santos, told Eyewitness News the case was “complete and utter garbage” and said HPD did a “horrible job investigating.”<\/p>\n
HPD declined to respond to Keiter’s statements.<\/p>\n
“We’ll see what the evidence shows once it’s turned over,” attorney Casey Gonzalez, who is representing Rolando Santos, said.<\/p>\n
HPD said booking photos for the Santos brothers weren’t available Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Bond was set at $15,000 for each of them and online records show Rolando Santos’ bond was posted.<\/p>\n
