HOUSTON – Texas has its eyes peeled on the southern Gulf where Tropical Depression 9 formed Tuesday.<\/p>\n
What we know:<\/p>\n
The system, which had been designated Invest 92L, is located in the Bay of Campeche.<\/p>\n
According to the forecast from the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Depression 9 will stay east of Texas. It is forecast to come ashore along the northern Gulf Coast later this week.<\/p>\n

Tropical Depression 9 is forecast to become Tropical Storm Isaias by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, and then become the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season by Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 What does Tropical Depression 9 mean for Texas? <\/p>\n
Most computer forecast models agree that Tropical Depression 9 will not be a big problem for Texas. However, anytime there is a tropical system in the Gulf, it is worth watching closely.<\/p>\n
It doesn\u2019t take a landfalling tropical system to cause problems for coastal Texas. With a system in the Gulf, rip currents and coastal flooding can become problems in addition to the heavy rain and gusty winds that they can bring.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service office in Corpus Christi has issued a coastal flood advisory for the barrier islands until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Forecasters said water could be pushed up to beach dunes on the Aransas, Kleberg, Nueces and Calhoun islands. This can lead to difficult driving and blocked roads.<\/p>\n
Parts of the Texas coast will also see enhanced rainfall chances this weekend as the system moves toward the northern Gulf Coast, but the amounts look manageable at this time.<\/p>\n
