AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 A man died Tuesday night after he was found injured in the parking lot of a South Austin apartment complex. Police said no one had been detained as of early Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Officers were called about 8 p.m. Tuesday to the La Madrid Apartments, 11320 Menchaca Road, for a report of a shooting or stabbing, said Officer Austin Zarling with the Austin Police Department.<\/p>\n

Officers found a man with “apparent trauma to his body” and tried to save his life before Austin-Travis County EMS medics and Austin firefighters took over, Zarling said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 9 p.m.<\/p>\n

Police said the man and the suspect knew each other and that detectives are treating the homicide as an isolated incident.<\/p>\n

Asked whether investigators had identified the suspect, Zarling said homicide detectives “are working diligently to make sure that we do know who it is.”<\/p>\n

The incident took place in the complex’s parking lot, Zarling said. Parts of the parking lot remained closed early Wednesday and were expected to stay that way for at least a couple more hours. <\/p>\n

The death is being investigated as Austin’s 46th homicide of 2026.<\/p>\n
