And everybody is convinced theirs is the best.

More than 100 traditional street pizza stands or pizza-and-pasta cafes dot the map across Tarrant County. Most are family shops owned by Albanian-Americans and their descendants.

In much of Fort Worth, the favorite is Slice City Pizza.

Owner “Tony” Kudret is from a founding Texas pizza-and-pasta family, and his two stands in north and southwest Fort Worth are good examples of the “New York pizza” style.

The original Slice City was dearly missed when it closed on Hulen Street. That location finally reopened 7 miles south at 7445 Oakmont Blvd., just off the Chisholm Trail Parkway next to a Starbucks Coffee in the Cityview hospital district.

A second location is in north Fort Worth at 2700 Western Center Blvd., near Fred’s Texas Cafe.

A visit to the Oakmont location this week showed why loyal fans love Slice City.

Look, Fort Worth has a lot of great new pizza shops. Ozzy’s is not far away. Mister01 in the Left Bank shops is Michelin Guide-honored from Miami. Olivella’s consistently leads “best pizza” rankings. Mama’s is the old favorite. And that’s not to mention the countless bars.

But Slice City is simply classic old-school pizza.

Margherita pizza and a “meat lover’s” pizza by the slice costs about $10 for both at Slice City Pizza in Fort Worth, Texas, as seen Oct. 6, 2026. It tastes like buttery dough, not something as hard as the box.

The sauce has a zing. The toppings are plentiful.

And the price is right: about $10-$11 for two large slices or one slice with a salad and drink, or $14 up to about $27 for a 14-to-18-inch pie, or $38.50 and up for a “double extra large.”

On a visit this week, the Margherita pizza had more flavor than most. The “meat lover’s” pizza was completely covered with pepperoni, sausage, ham and hamburger.

Slice City Pizza is a small pizza stand lined with red vinyl booths, as seen Oct. 6, 2026 in Fort Worth, Texas. And yes, Slice City also has a gluten-free crust. Salads include the usual tossed, a Greek or a Caesar.

Unlike many similar restaurants, Slice City doesn’t serve pasta.
