The complex is just a block away from the site of a fatal gas explosion at the Bonnie Apartments earlier this year.

Juan Palmer and his son Alexis are making do with a small electric hot plate issued to residents at the Swope and Mangold at Bishop Ridge apartments on East Davis Street in Oak Cliff. They’ve been without working gas service for two and a half weeks

They told us they’ve resorted to eating out more often than they’d like.

“It’s kind of frustrating because we have to go out and buy food every single day. And it’s getting kind of expensive,” said Alexis Palmer.

The frustration here is twofold. They moved there after having to leave the nearby Clyde Apartments following a natural gas explosion at the Bonnie Apartments in late May. They didn’t expect another problem.

In a statement to NBC 5 on Tuesday, Atmos Energy said a gas “release” was identified on September 17th. They said they were unable to contact property management at the time, and natural gas services to the property were shut off.

Days later, on September 23, they said Atmos Energy-owned piping passed a pressure test and natural gas service to the meter was restored.

The statement goes on to say in part:

“…a natural gas line not owned by Atmos Energy at the property still requires repair and testing before service can be safely restored.”

“Atmos Energy does not maintain the natural gas lines on the customer’s property beyond the meter, similar to other utilities like electrical wiring or water pipes.”

In an email to residents obtained by NBC 5, property management at the Swope and Mangold Apartments said contractors are actively working on the repairs.

In that same message, they told residents they are working on a timeline for repairs but cannot guarantee a specific completion date.

The email also said in part:

“We also want to make sure you are aware of the options available to you if you feel that transferring to another apartment would provide greater comfort or peace of mind. We currently have 8 vacant, ready-to-occupy units available within BR West and BR Rehab. Residents interested in transferring would need to complete an application and go through the required requalification process.”

Property management said they’re not offering rent concessions now because the circumstances and repairs are outside of their control.

Samantha Folks, also a resident, told NBC 5 she’s frustrated by what she feels is a lack of information, with no certainty on the timeline for repairs.

Property management said they understandably heightened concerns about safety following the explosion nearby and that they take those concerns seriously.

Residents at an Oak Cliff Apartment Complex are frustrated after going more than two weeks without working gas…

[9
102,104,103
post-459239","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dallas","tag-dallas","tag-dallas-headlines","tag-dallas-news
["GET
