{"id":459391,"date":"2026-10-07T19:54:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-07T19:54:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/459391\/"},"modified":"2026-10-07T19:54:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-07T19:54:08","slug":"former-twin-sisters-space-gets-new-life-with-incoming-austin-bakery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/459391\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Twin Sisters space gets new life with incoming Austin bakery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Austin-born bakery is slated to move into the former home of Twin Sisters Bakery &amp; Caf\u00e9, an iconic eatery that sat nestled into San Antonio&#8217;s Sunset Ridge shopping center for over four decades until its June 2023 closure.<\/p>\n<p>So, who will the new tenant be? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/swedishhillbakery?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&amp;stkn=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Swedish Hill bakery<\/a>, an all-day caf\u00e9 concept that debuted in Austin in 2019. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DeILFLCjkDM\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;stkn=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Antonio Business Journal<\/a>, the roughly 3,000-square-foot space at 6322\u00a0N. New Braunfels Ave. will get a major makeover before Swedish Hill moves in, giving the bakery-caf\u00e9 a fresh start in its new Alamo City home.<\/p>\n<p>For San Antonians unfamiliar with the Austin bakery, Swedish Hill has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swedishhillbakery.com\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pretty extensive pastry r\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/a>.\u00a0Its cases are filled with bagels, croissants,\u00a0kouign-amann, cookies and tarts, while the caf\u00e9 menu includes salads, sandwiches, rotisserie chicken and deli-style sides. Its chicken tortilla soup is also a holdover from the business&#8217;s earlier days, and has become one of the eatery&#8217;s signature offerings.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s some history behind the name, too. The bakery traces its roots back to 1975, when Patricia Bauer-Slate and Tom Neuhaus opened the concept as &#8220;Sweetish Hill&#8221; in a charming East Austin Victorian home.<\/p>\n<p>MML Hospitality \u2014 an entrepreneurial supergroup that includes the proprietor of The Newstand and The Dispatch \u2014 took over the business in 2018, re-launching it as Swedish Hill the following year.<\/p>\n<p>After Twin Sisters closed, the new bakery will bring another place to the neighborhood for breakfast, lunch, coffee and baked goods.<\/p>\n<p>Swedish Hill has five locations in Austin and one in Aspen, Colorado.
