{"id":45945,"date":"2025-11-12T03:40:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T03:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/45945\/"},"modified":"2025-11-12T03:40:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T03:40:10","slug":"nico-harrison-makes-instagram-change-after-mavericks-firing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/45945\/","title":{"rendered":"Nico Harrison makes Instagram change after Mavericks firing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nico Harrison lost his job with the Mavericks \u2014 and he seemingly wants the world to know it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/11\/sports\/mavericks-fire-nico-harrison-nine-months-after-luka-doncic-trade\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harrison was fired by Dallas on Tuesday<\/a>, and soon after, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nicoharrison_24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">he changed his Instagram bio<\/a> to read: \u201cUnemployed.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Harrison took over as the general manager of the Mavericks in 2021 and brought the team to the NBA Finals once (2024) but faced heat and a deluge of criticism from angry fans after <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/02\/sports\/mavericks-trading-luka-doncic-to-lakers-for-anthony-davis-as-part-of-shocking-3-team-nba-blockbuster\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">trading star Luka Don\u010di\u0107 to the Lakers<\/a> in a shocking midnight trade in February.<\/p>\n<p>The team, which did win the draft lottery and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/06\/sports\/cooper-flagg-has-never-experienced-anything-like-this-mavericks-start\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">selected Duke phenom Cooper Flagg<\/a> with the No. 1 pick, has started out with an uninspiring 3-8 record this season. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>Chants of \u201cFire Nico!\u201d became ubiquitous at American Airlines Center in Dallas after the trade, and remnants of that carried over into this season. <\/p>\n<p>Team governor Patrick Dumont eventually regretted helping green-light the trade of Doncic and fired Harrison on Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/46930033\/why-mavs-fired-nico-harrison-next-dallas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ESPN reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant GMs Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi will now run the Mavericks\u2019 basketball operations in the interim.<\/p>\n<p>In an open letter to the Dallas fanbase, Dumont explained that the franchise is disappointed with the sluggish beginning of the season, and it was time to let Harrison go. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:2.39896373;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37641203\" width=\"926\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Screenshot-2025-11-11-192835.png\" alt=\"Ex-Mavericks GM Nico Harrison made a change to his Instagram account after his firing.\" class=\"wp-image-37641203\"  \/>Ex-Mavericks GM Nico Harrison made a change to his Instagram account after his firing. NicoHarrison_24\/Instagram <\/p>\n<p>He explained that the team figured the future was \u201cbright\u201d after the 2024 Finals appearance, but expectations have not been met.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one associated with the Mavericks organization is happy with the start of what we all believed would be a promising season,\u201d Dumont wrote. \u201cYou have high expectations for the Mavericks, and I share them with you. When the results don\u2019t meet expectations, it\u2019s my responsibility to act. I\u2019ve made the decision to part ways with General Manager Nico Harrison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough the majority of the 2025-26 season remains to be played, and I know our players are deeply committed to a winning culture, the decision was critical to moving our franchise forward in a positive direction. \u2026 Our goal is to return to winning basketball in Dallas and win championships.
