Austin police are searching for a man they say fatally assaulted 66-year-old Jeffrey\u00a0Grable while he was lying near a North Austin bus stop.<\/p>\n
Investigators believe Grable had been lying near the bus stop for several hours before another man approached and assaulted him, investigators said. The man then fled the area.<\/p>\n
Police have not said what led up to the attack or disclosed how Grable was killed.<\/p>\n
A CapMetro driver spotted Grable on the ground shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday and reported seeing blood around him, police said earlier this week. Officers arrived around 5:17 a.m. and found Grable with injuries to his body. He was pronounced dead at 5:34 a.m.<\/p>\n
Police described the suspect as a Black man in his 30s, about 6 feet tall and 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, black pants, white shoes and a backwards cap.<\/p>\n
Homicide detectives had spent Tuesday morning canvassing businesses near the bus stop, which sits near a Walmart and Murphy USA gas station, and looking for surveillance video that could help investigators determine what happened.<\/p>\n
Police are now asking anyone who was in the area that night to come forward, particularly people who may have photos, video or other evidence connected to the killing.<\/p>\n
