The moment you’ve been waiting for is here. Fort Worth Zoo’s Sumatran tiger cubs<\/a> are officially on habitat for visitors to see.<\/p>\n

According to a zoo Facebook post<\/a>, the cubs now have access to the main habitat as well as their behind-the-scenes den.<\/p>\n

According to zoo officials, adult tigers typically only spend time together for breeding, so while Rakan may alternate in the habitat, the mother and cubs will be the main focus.<\/p>\n

Zookeepers will be following Ndari\u2019s lead on where and how the cubs spend their time<\/a> and have modified the habitat to keep them safer in a larger space, the post said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sumatran tigers are listed as critically endangered, according to the International Fund For Animal Welfare. The cubs mark the first births of the subspecies in the zoo\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

There are fewer than 650 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, primarily due to habitat loss, deforestation and poaching, according to IFAW. They\u2019re known to inhabit tropical mountain forests, freshwater swamp forests and peat swamps on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, and are the smallest tigers in the world<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2023, the zoo opened the Predators of Asia & Africa tiger habitat, which doubled the living space for its tigers in an effort to renew focus on conservation work.
