At least 100 protesters are gathering outside of the Freeman Coliseum on the East Side as President Donald Trump\u2019s rally for Republican candidates gets underway.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bexar County Democratic Party, a local chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation and individual protesters set up across the street from the coliseum ahead of the 4:30 p.m. rally.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0PSL<\/a> denounced Trump\u2019s aggressive deportation campaign, and both groups said the president isn\u2019t welcome in San Antonio.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Trump is slated to speak at 6\u00a0p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cDonald Trump, go back home, San Antonio is ours alone,\u201d protesters chanted at the corner of Coca Cola Place and East Houston Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n Trump is visiting San Antonio<\/a> ahead of the November election to rally voters behind Carlos De La Cruz, the Republican nominee for the redrawn 35th Congressional District, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is in a heated race against Democrat James\u00a0Talarico for Republican John Cornyn\u2019s U.S. Senate seat.\u00a0The two are speaking at the rally.<\/p>\n Gov. Greg Abbott, a longtime Trump ally who’s facing a stronger-than-expected challenge from Democrat Gina Hinojosa, isn\u2019t at the event. He announced earlier this week that he wouldn\u2019t be able to attend because of a scheduling conflict. He\u2019s scheduled to be in College Station for the Republican Party of Brazos County\u2019s Barbecue Dinner<\/a>.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Wednesday\u2019s rally marks Trump\u2019s fourth visit to Texas in the past six weeks \u2014 and his first to San Antonio since 2019.<\/p>\n Several protesters waved\u00a0Talarico and Hinojosa campaign signs.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cTrump is the WORST President EVER,\u201d the first line of David Bolster\u2019s sign reads. His wife, Mary Jo, carried a sign that said, \u201cDebtor Donald Doubled our National Debt since 2016,\u201d on one side and \u201cRepublican = high prices. We love Canada\u201d on the other.\u00a0<\/p>\n The couple has lived together in San Antonio since 1998.\u00a0<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s bankrupting our children\u2019s future,\u201d said Mary Jo Bolster, 67.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIn a press address a night or two ago, he said we could just bomb Los Angeles and San Diego<\/a>, basically, because they\u2019re not going to vote for him so they\u2019re expendable,\u201d said David Bolster, 68. \u201cThat is not a president. That is not a servant of the people. That is a tyrant.\u201d<\/p>\n East Side Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, whose district includes the Freeman Coliseum, said before the rally that Trump\u2019s \u201ccruelty and inhumanity are not welcome in San Antonio.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cHe has promoted reckless and inhumane immigration policies that have separated families and harmed countless Texas residents,\u201d the councilman said in a statement. \u201cHis endless war in Iran and his unauthorized tariff policy have hurt our local businesses and emptied our family bank accounts \u2014 all while his family and friends have grown richer.\u201d<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n On Tuesday, U.S. Rep.\u00a0Joaquin Castro\u00a0called on Trump to visit the immigration processing facility in Dilley, more than 70 miles southwest of San Antonio,\u00a0to see the \u201ctrauma he is inflicting on children and babies.\u201d The San Antonio Democrat\u00a0has long criticized<\/a> the center for poor living conditions and has called for its closure.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you can\u2019t stand there and go inside and look into the eyes of these kids and tell them that despite the fact they\u2019ve done nothing wrong, that they belong there just because of where they were born, just because of the color of their skin, just because of the language that they speak, then you don\u2019t deserve to be President of the United States,\u201d Castro said in a statement.<\/p>\n This morning, Castro also stood alongside local military veterans in front of City Hall to call for an end to Iran war<\/a>.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones requested a meeting with Trump<\/a> while he\u2019s in San Antonio to discuss ending the Iran War and tariffs, halt the planned East Side ICE facility<\/a>, stop incoming cuts to Medicare and \u201chold data centers accountable\u201d with new laws requiring more openness\u00a0and pollution limits.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n This is a developing story.
