The Broncos (2-1) got out to an early lead and never looked back as the Islanders (1-2) defense couldn&#8217;t slow down the fast-paced attack or get through the tough defense.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHOW IT HAPPENED: <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tSanta Clara started the game with a 6-0 run thanks to four free throws. After some back-and-forth between the teams, the Broncos scored seven in a row with <a href=\"https:\/\/santaclarabroncos.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/ava-schmidt\/9112\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9112\" target=\"_blank\">Ava Schmidt<\/a> scoring five to get out in front by 11 and would lead 23-13 after the first.&#13;<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/santaclarabroncos.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kylee-fox\/9111\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9111\" target=\"_blank\">Kylee Fox<\/a> started the second quarter with five straight points to make it a 15-point lead. The Islanders cut the deficit to 11 with a 3-pointer at the four-minute mark, but Santa Clara responded with a 7-0 run over the next 2:10 that was capped by Fox&#8217;s 3-pointer. <a href=\"https:\/\/santaclarabroncos.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/tyler-gildersleeve-stiles\/9103\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9103\" target=\"_blank\">Tyler Gildersleeve-Stiles<\/a> made a steal and went coast-to-coast to close out the first half with her team on top 44-25.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe lead got to 20-plus for the first time with 6:39 in the third after a triple by Schmidt followed by a layup from <a href=\"https:\/\/santaclarabroncos.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/ashley-hawkins\/9115\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9115\" target=\"_blank\">Ashley Hawkins<\/a> to make it 53-32.\u00a0 Santa Clara would close the quarter on a 6-0 run and lead 69-43 headed to the final 10 minutes.&#13;<br \/>\n\tA 3-pointer from <a href=\"https:\/\/santaclarabroncos.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kate-schat\/9105\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9105\" target=\"_blank\">Kate Schat<\/a> with 5:28 remaining gave the Broncos a game high lead of 31. The Islanders cut in the lead with a 6-0 run to end the game.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\nNOTABLE:<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tSanta Clara shot 47.7-percent (31-of-65) from the floor while going 8-of-29 beyond the arc and 15-of-19 from the free throw line.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Broncos five players reach double figures, led by 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from <a href=\"https:\/\/santaclarabroncos.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/sophie-glancey\/9109\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9109\" target=\"_blank\">Sophie Glancey<\/a> who also had five blocks, one off her career high, and tied a career high with three steals. Fox added 16 points with Schmidt adding 13, <a href=\"https:\/\/santaclarabroncos.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/ashley-hawkins\/9115\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9115\" target=\"_blank\">Ashley Hawkins<\/a> scoring 12 to go with six assists and five rebounds, and <a href=\"https:\/\/santaclarabroncos.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/delainey-miller\/9114\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9114\" target=\"_blank\">Delainey Miller<\/a> scoring 10.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSanta Clara&#8217;s up-tempo offense led to a 17-2 advantage in fastbreak points. The Broncos also picked up 20 assists, 10 steals, and nine blocks.&#13;<br \/>\n\tTexas A&amp;M-Corpus Christi shot the ball at 37.0-percent (20-of-54) from the field and went 9-of-19 from downtown while struggling at the free throw line, going just 13-of-28.&#13;<br \/>\n\tAsha Walker led the Islanders with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from downtown.
