San Antonio’s Oyster Bake is entering a transitional period, as the St. Mary\u2019s University Alumni Association just announced major changes to the 2027 edition of the event<\/a>. For starters, the official name has changed to Fiesta Oyster Bake Music Fest to emphasize the event’s musical focus going forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to a name change, Fiesta Oyster Bake Music Fest will now include two stages, VIP viewing decks and a lineup of nationally recognized musical acts. MySA shared the news across our social media platforms, and San Antonio locals were not shy about sharing exactly how they felt about the Oyster Bake rebrand.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Code word for: If you’re over 50 no more “Blue Oyster Cult” for you!” said Facebook user Dan Castle. The 20th century rock band last headlined Oyster Bake in 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Looking forward to which 2000s one hit wonder will play this year!!! Pulling for Chumbawamba or Wheatus,” said Instagram user Rufus K.<\/p>\n

Some of the reactions weren’t directed at the proposed changes to Oyster Bake but rather at certain attendees who may be in the crowd.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Edgar hair detectors? EBT pay stations?\u00a0More Metal detectors?” said Facebook user John Anthony.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Everyone that goes to this Oyster Bake doesn’t believe in deodorant,” George Loera said in the Facebook comments.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MySA’s digital article about the Oyster Bake switch-up included a section inviting readers to comment, and one person, Ramon V., did just that.<\/p>\n

“Sounds great you can afford to bring in national acts. We can afford to pay. And while you’re at it, can you keep all the tejano bands downtown under 35 south,” wrote Ramon\u00a0V.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Generally, the sentiment in these responses reflects a San Antonio audience that is hungry for change in Fiesta events overall, whether that be affordability or the entertainment options.
