The run game averaged 3.8 yards per carry. Things got worse when receiver\u00a0CeeDee Lamb was limited with a thigh injury. Left tackle Tyler Guyton departed the game with a back issue.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The fans at AT&amp;T Stadium booed lustfully as if they were tired of watching.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, as quarterback\u00a0Dak Prescott walked\u00a0to the locker room after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/article\/cowboys-buccaneers-five-thoughts-22465459.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a distasteful 24-16 loss to a winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers team<\/a>, someone from a third-party company uttered what many were thinking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Embarrassing&#8221; was the word said to QB1, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SamGannon87\/status\/2108397722348716044\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow\">prompting\u00a0Prescott to turn his head in that person\u2019s direction.<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">An employee inside AT&amp;T Stadium said \u201cembarrassing,\u201d after that Cowboys loss. <\/p>\n<p>Dak looking back to see who it was. <\/p>\n<p>#dallascowboys #cowboysnation https:\/\/t.co\/Xss7LkAO7F<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sam Gannon (@SamGannon87) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SamGannon87\/status\/2108397722348716044?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">October 9, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Something else was said as Prescott kept walking into a stunned locker room of a team that is 2-3 going into a three-day weekend trying to figure out why it was so good in the first four weeks of the season and so bad Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah. I mean, not that they\u2019re wrong,\u201d\u00a0Prescott said of the embarrassing remark. \u201cBut the thing was I just \u2026 Yeah, I don\u2019t know if it was an employee, it was a driver, whoever it was, he\u2019s free to speak his mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coach Brian\u00a0Schottenheimer was asked if it was disrespectful to hear such a word.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are allowed to say what they want to say,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Cowboys displayed themselves as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/article\/cowboys-texans-five-thoughts-ceedee-lamb-22458951.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an offensive powerhouse against the winless Houston Texans last week<\/a>. Dallas survived that game thanks to its offense.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday night, following a touchdown on the opening drive, the offense stalled. You can blame the pressure the Buccaneers sent that caused communication problems.<\/p>\n<p>Prescott went through a first-half stretch where he threw six consecutive incompletions. Most of the night you kept waiting on the Cowboys offense to explode. But Prescott had a pass come off the hands of receiver Ryan Flournoy \u2014 a throw he said he shouldn\u2019t have made \u2014 that was picked off by linebacker Yaya Diaby with 10:51 in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The Bucs eventually pushed their lead to 24-10 with about three minutes to play in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>So it was just time for the Cowboys offense to take over.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It couldn\u2019t. On a fourth-and-3 at the Cowboys&#8217; 43, Prescott, feeling pressure from blitzing safety Tykee Smith, sent a high throw to tight end Jake Ferguson that fell incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0You would have thought that would have been the game the way the Buccaneers&#8217; offense was going with a grind-it-out, work-the-clock style. But Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles, instead of attempting a field goal to add to the lead, went for it on fourth down from the 1 and didn\u2019t get it.<\/p>\n<p>It seemed as if the Cowboys had another chance at redemption.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Cowboys&#8217; drive started from the 1 and\u00a0Prescott led them to a score with George Pickens catching an 18-yard touchdown pass. That drive didn\u2019t have Lamb on the field as he nursed a thigh injury suffered the previous week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The 2-point conversion failed but the Cowboys seemed to be in business again, down 24-16 with 5:26 remaining in the game.<\/p>\n<p>Schottenheimer explained that going for 2 was part of their philosophy when down two scores late in a game.<\/p>\n<p>That can be debated another day.<\/p>\n<p>The Cowboys&#8217; defense, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/article\/cowboys-buccaneers-defense-christian-parker-22468376.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">another pitiful performance<\/a>, was able to turn the Bucs away to give the offense another chance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/article\/cowboys-buccaneers-defense-christian-parker-22468376.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">It&#8217;s time to say it: This Cowboys defensive rebuild is one unholy mess<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Prescott drove the Cowboys to the Bucs 23 with 1:22 left. On a second and 1 from the Tampa Bay 24, Prescott sent a catchable pass to Ferguson, who couldn\u2019t handle it. The ball was picked off by linebacker Alex Anzalone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, we know Ferguson has to catch the ball,\u201d\u00a0Schottenheimer said. \u201cHe knows that. And we really had two balls that were bouncing through the air tonight, if you will, against the team who\u2019s playing a lot of zone coverage and so there\u2019s guys back there to catch it and no one\u2019s going to be harder on Jake than himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week,\u00a0Prescott had an exchange with a reporter about whether this offense is playing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/cowboys\/article\/dak-prescott-dallas-cowboys-offense-mantra-22375389.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the GOTI (Greatest Offense There Is) nickname\u00a0Prescott gave this unit.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At this stage of the year, Prescott didn\u2019t believe his offense was playing as GOTI.\u00a0But after watching Thursday\u2019s performance, particularly from the offense,\u00a0GOTI isn\u2019t a word that should get used around here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Embarrassing sounds more like it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMotivating,\u201d\u00a0Schottenheimer said of what he thinks\u00a0when he hears someone use the word\u00a0embarrassing. \u201cWe believe in what we\u2019re doing.
