All five changed their rates. Four went up: the City of Austin, Travis County, Central Health and Austin Community College. Only Austin ISD lowered its rate.

Property values fell this year, so a rate’s direction doesn’t tell the whole story. The no-new-revenue rate would bring in the same money from the same properties as last year.

Austin ISD and ACC came in below that rate, meaning they’ll collect less from existing property, even though ACC’s rate rose slightly. The city, county and Central Health came in above it.

How the bill breaks down

For a $500,000 homestead inside Austin city limits, Travis County and Austin ISD, the five entities add up to about $8,215 annually. Austin ISD takes the largest share, about 40%, followed by the city at 28% and Travis County at 19%. Central Health and Austin Community College each account for about 6%.

These values use each entity’s standard homestead exemption and its 2026 rate and do not include senior or disability exemptions. Actual bills vary by property value, exemptions and location.

City of Austin

The Austin City Council adopted a rate of $0.579948 per $100 on Aug. 12, up from $0.524017. That is above the city’s no-new-revenue rate of $0.535466 and is the maximum the city can adopt without an election, according to the city. The typical homeowner’s city bill will rise from about $2,074 to about $2,190, according to the city.

Catch the full story

Travis County

Travis County commissioners adopted a rate of $0.386210 per $100 on Sept. 15, up from $0.375845. Last year’s rate included a one-time increase for recovery from the July 2025 floods. The county removed that portion this year, but the new rate is still higher than last year’s and above the no-new-revenue rate of $0.378179, according to the county.

What that means for a bill depends on the home. According to the county, the owner of the median homestead, valued at $372,633, will pay about $31 less for the county’s portion. The owner of the average taxable homestead, valued at $502,989, will pay about $6 more.

More details here

Central Health

Travis County commissioners approved Central Health‘s rate of $0.132863 per $100 on Sept. 15, up from $0.118023. That is above the no-new-revenue rate of $0.118633, according to the organization’s notice. Central Health says it will put all $22.1 million in new revenue toward mental health care. The owner of the median homestead will pay about $36 more, according to Central Health.

Find out more here

Austin ISD

The AISD board adopted a rate of $0.9184 per $100 of taxable value on Sept. 24, down from $0.9252 last year. That is below the district’s no-new-revenue rate of $0.9452, according to its 2026 tax rate worksheet. The district projects the median homeowner’s bill will fall from $3,525 to $3,461.

Read more here

Austin Community College

The ACC board adopted a rate of $0.103643 per $100 on Sept. 14, slightly above last year’s $0.1034. Because it’s still below the no-new-revenue rate of $0.105924, ACC will collect less from existing property than last year, according to the district’s worksheet.

ACC’s taxing district covers all of Austin ISD plus Del Valle, Elgin, Hays CISD, Leander, Lockhart, Manor and Round Rock ISDs, along with the parts of Eanes and Pflugerville ISDs inside Austin city limits.

On Nov. 3, Pflugerville ISD voters will decide whether the rest of their district joins, according to Community Impact reporting. If it does, those property owners would pay ACC’s tax in exchange for in-district tuition. ACC has not said which tax year that would start.

Get the full rundown here

What’s next

Tax bills typically go out in the fall. This year’s bills are due Feb. 1, 2027, since Jan. 31 falls on a Sunday, according to the Travis County Tax Office.
