Texas volleyball picked up a pair of SEC wins last weekend but also drew the ire of head coach Jerritt Elliott after Sunday’s particularly sloppy 3-1 victory over Alabama. The Longhorns (7-5, 3-1) hit the road this weekend beginning with Friday at Arkansas, and Elliott said this week that his team needs to play better if it hopes to win a third straight match for the first time this season.

The No. 9 Longhorns may have to play without injured starting middle blocker Nya Bunton, who’s nursing a sore knee. But the emergence of freshman outside hitter Henley Anderson could help ease the attention of leading attackers Torrey Stafford and Cari Spears; the Dripping Springs native fired 25 kills in the two matches last weekend while hitting .427.

Texas volleyball vs Arkansas scoring updates

Set 2: Arkansas 15, Texas 11

Torrey Stafford hammers her team-high ninth kill of the match on a back-row attack for Texas, but the Longhorns need more balance and more efficiency. Arkansas’s Maggie McCarroll, the Maroon, has eight assists in her first career start, and the Hogs are hitting .333 as a team. Mackenzie Collins, who’s getting her third straight start at middle for Nya Bunton, is a Texas bright spot with three kills on three swings.

Oh, and a big moment for Arkansas freshman Maggie McCarroll: The Austin native and Hawg setter gets her first start against the hometown Horns. McCarroll played three seasons at Regents before helping Austin High reach the Class 6A tournament last season as a senior. Lots of Austin flavor for Arkansas.
