AUSTIN (KXAN) \u2014 An incredibly strong geomagnetic storm has surprised many by showing off the Northern Lights as far south as Central Texas!<\/p>\n

Several viewers have e-mailed KXAN pictures of the aurora from places like Buchanan Dam, Giddings and Lake Marble Falls. While it\u2019s most likely to be seen from a good camera, it\u2019s not out of the question you can see it with the naked eye if you get away from the city lights.<\/p>\n

Tuesday night NOAA reported<\/a> that the geomagnetic storm reached G4 status or \u201csevere\u201d indicating a \u201cmajor disturbance in the Earth\u2019s magnetic field.\u201d<\/p>\n
