{"id":461951,"date":"2026-10-10T07:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-10T07:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/461951\/"},"modified":"2026-10-10T07:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-10T07:04:08","slug":"game-day-guide-stars-at-penguins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/461951\/","title":{"rendered":"Game Day Guide: Stars at Penguins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First Shift \ud83c\udfd2<\/p>\n<p>Dallas led the NHL in man advantage scoring last season (71 goals) and finished second to Edmonton in success rate at 28.6 percent. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/8482740\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wyatt Johnston<\/a> set a franchise record for power play goals in a season, leading the league with 27, and four players finished with 19 or more points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it\u2019s clicking, it\u2019s really good,\u201d said forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/8478449\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roope Hintz<\/a>, who scored a power play goal Thursday at Buffalo. \u201cWe try to support each other everywhere and try to create those 2-on-1s. We can make plays when there is more room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two seasons ago the Stars were 10th in the league with 55 power play goals, but they made some changes under new assistant coach Neil Graham. Dallas got a full season out of Rantanen, which helped, but Graham\u2019s strategy was crucial in getting players into the right place. He also promoted more movement, which has been tough to defend.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Rantanen and Johnston forced defenders to move, and then Hintz found an opening in the slot. It was reminiscent of a lot of goals from last season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re all smart players who can see the reads and make the reads, and respond to that,\u201d Johnston said.<\/p>\n<p>The group has mostly been Rantanen, Hintz, Johnston, Robertson and\u00a0Heiskanen. Also getting time has been\u00a0Duchene, who currently is out with a lower body injury. This year, players such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/8481581\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas Harley<\/a>,\u00a0Seguin and Benn could work in more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s good players all around me and I really enjoy it,\u201d Rantanen said. \u201cMiro is a really good passer and good skater, Robo and Johnny can score 50 goals apiece, and Roope is a big body and a great shot like we saw today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Opposing teams have had time to scout in the off-season, so when Dallas did not score on the man advantage in the first three games, there was some worry. But they know adjustments are a part of the NHL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a little bit of a cat and mouse game with that, but you\u2019re always looking to get better,\u201d Johnston said, adding that success pushed the team last year. \u201cIt was the confidence.
