Both were just arrested following a months-long investigation.

This story continues below.

The case involves 87-year-old Jennie Hitt, who lived in a home on Glen Echo Drive in northwest Houston for decades. Her grandson, Forrest Perry, spoke exclusively to KHOU 11’s Orko Manna and said that he believes the suspects took advantage of Hitt as her mental clarity declined.

“It was heartbreaking, infuriating,” Perry said.

Perry said the past year has been a nightmare for his grandmother. According to court documents, Tiffany Thomas allegedly went to Hitt’s home in October 2025, claiming to work in code enforcement and offering to help.

“I first got a call from this Tiffany woman who basically was saying she worked for the county; she was an inspector,” Perry said.

Court documents reveal that in November 2025, Hitt fell and went to the hospital. Perry, who lives in Oklahoma, said he drove to Houston when he learned what happened, and he found out that Thomas had allegedly obtained both Durable Power of Attorney and Medical Power of Attorney over the victim.

“That’s when all the red alarms started going off, like something bad is going on,” Perry said.

According to court documents, Perry also learned that, “Thomas took ownership of the Complainant’s house via deed which was filed with the Harris County Clerk’s Office.”

Thomas is accused of forging a notary signature on the home’s warranty deed. Court documents show the property was transferred from Hitt to Thomas for $10, despite being valued at more than $207,000. Thomas’ son, Malik Slone, allegedly took ownership of the property.

“It seems like her intentions were to essentially sell it out from underneath her while she was in the hospital and while the rest of her family had no idea what was going on,” Perry said.

Perry said he reported the situation to Houston police.

According to court documents, investigators said Hitt’s “diminished mental capacity was apparent.” Hitt also said Thomas told her she was going to help pay her bills, but Hitt noticed that she was “sneaking around” and further stated that “she did not understand what she was doing.”

Perry told KHOU 11 that his grandmother has dementia and sometimes becomes confused.

“Unfortunately, she made a very easy target because she did live by herself for so long,” Perry said. “I think she was just shocked. She couldn’t believe that this woman had done so much in such a short amount of time. I don’t think she wanted to believe, because she really thought this lady was her friend.”

Court documents state that officers with HPD’s Financial Crime Division went to Thomas’ home in December 2025 and saw a vehicle there with a “County Inspector” sticker on it. Police spoke to both Thomas and Slone.

Following the months-long investigation, Thomas and Slone were just arrested this week.

“I didn’t know if this day would ever come, and the fact that they’re finally arrested, it definitely feels good,” Perry said.

As of Friday evening, Thomas bonded out of jail.

KHOU 11 called Thomas’ listed phone number to ask her about the situation, but she did not answer.

Hitt now lives in a nursing home. According to her grandson, the home’s title has been returned to her name following a lengthy civil court process. But Perry said they are still dealing with attempts to appeal the decision.

Thomas and Slone are scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Got a news tip or story idea?
