Over the past week, light northerly winds have sent dry air into South-Central Texas, resulting in a noticeable drop in humidity and much cooler morning temperatures.<\/a> Even though afternoons have stayed warm, early morning temps in San Antonio have fallen into the 60s for the past five consecutive days.<\/p>\n

However, winds are set to change direction to become southerly, resulting in a big shift in the weather pattern by early next week. Hot and humid weather is likely to bring 100-degree heat index readings<\/a> \u2013 a rarity for the middle of October.<\/p>\n

The unseasonable heat won\u2019t last long, though. Weather models are now showing with more confidence that a significant cold front will move<\/a> through the region by Friday and into next weekend, bringing the region its coldest air since last spring.<\/p>\n

Saturday: Get outside and enjoy the weekend weather before the increasing humidity returns. On Saturday, morning low temperatures are expected to hover in the mid- to upper 60s through 8 a.m., rising quickly by the mid- to late morning. By noon, San Antonio temps will likely be near 85 degrees.<\/p>\n

Temperatures are expected to top out near 90 degrees,<\/a> but with afternoon humidity levels near 35%, the heat won’t feel too overbearing. Bright sunshine is expected throughout the day, with no chance of rainfall.<\/p>\n

Sunday: Slightly more humid weather is expected Sunday, but it won\u2019t be extreme quite yet. Expect morning temperatures in the upper 60s, rising to an afternoon peak near 90 degrees once again. Wind speeds will be noticeably stronger by the afternoon and evening, with some gusts expected to become as strong as 25 mph.<\/p>\n

As southerly winds continue to pump moisture into the region, the air is likely to become very muggy from Monday through Wednesday. Afternoon temperatures won’t change much, rising to around 91 to 93 degrees each day. But when incorporating the added humidity, heat index values could reach 99 to 102 degrees each afternoon.<\/p>\n

The added moisture may also result in a few showers and storms, although coverage will be quite isolated. On Monday, overall rain chances in San Antonio will be at around 20%, falling to around a 10% chance of an isolated shower both Tuesday and Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Forecast models are showing with more confidence that a significant cold front is expected to push through South-Central Texas by Friday, likely sending true fall air into the region.<\/p>\n

The strength of the cold front is still uncertain, but as of now, forecast models indicate that high temperatures are likely to be into the 70s by next weekend. At the same time, overnight lows are likely to fall into the 50s, with a few spots \u2013 especially across the Hill Country \u2013 likely to drop into the 40s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The front will also bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be strong. San Antonio\u2019s best chance of rain is expected on Friday, before drier air likely filters in after the front passes through the area.
